08:46 pm - Hmmmm
I have a friend who is lovely in almost every possible way. Except that often, I am overwhelmed with an impulse to sit her down and brush her hair for her. It's like she's a five year old who can't manage it herself.

I think, that on those Funniest Home Video shows, they get the audience drunk. Otherwise I don't see how they can honestly laugh at those stupid videos.

Lately, Oxygen has been having sound trouble and the audio is not synched with the video. Catwoman might actually be an interesting movie if Sharon Stone and Benjamin Bratt switched roles.

10:04 pm - Cinematic Review Undercover Kitty
A little Dutch treat for the eyes and ears. Reviewers KL and KB screened this little gem this Saturday evening.
Theo Maassen stars as Tibbe, a painfully shy journalist struggling to find news. Newcomer to the Netherlands cinema, Carice Van Houten stars as Miss Minoes, a mysterious woman with a nose for news, a fondness for fish and a penchant for climbing rooftops and trees. Due to a strange barrel of toxic waste from a nearby deodorant factory, their two worlds collide. Together with the help of friends, they rescue kittens and take down the local secretly evil politician and feline-misanthrope (and deodorant factory owner). Chock full of suspense, violence and a touch of interspecies romance, this movie is sure to delight felines and humans alike.
Although filmed in Dutch, it is delightfully dubbed in English for all to enjoy.
KL rating: 3 Wooden Shoes KB rating: 2 ½ Smoked Goudas

09:30 pm - Fantasy Football Just finished an almost 2 hour fantasy football draft. It is my first. I am playing in All-Girls league. I had (and still have) no idea what I was (am) doing and cheated using a magazine article and various website.
I got Peyton Manning, Reggie Bush & the Ravens Defense. All are good things as I was told through IM (thanks David) & over Kris's cell (thanks Kris's Dad & Adam).
Its nice to know there are people out there that I can frantically contact and beg for football advice while they simultaneously laugh at me and applaud my Manning coup.
I'm not listing my whole team cause I know there are some picks in there that are WTF?! and at this point, my team is set. The girls aren't keen on trades. It is what it is. Current Mood: accomplished

11:38 am - Pop Quiz Last night at the Tombs, I answered this trivia question with my amazing Geographic-knowledge. See if you can (without cheating, I was in bar without access to Google or an atlas)
What are the only three countries named without using the letters in M-A-C-K-E-R-A-L-S?
(It is possible and I did it b/c I was on this ship and we sailed around the world and they made us memorize the countries of the continents while we were nearby)
I'll post hints if you really try. Current Mood: accomplished

09:05 pm - DONE Completed my first (of four) Comprehensive Exam today for grad school. It covered Psychopathology, Psychotherapy and Psychological Assessment. If I didn't pass (minimum requirement)American Univ and I will be throwing down. Basically, I rocked the exam.
Pending completion of the exam by 5 (of 7) of my classmates, we headed for a local bar/restaurant named Cactus Cantina for an afternoon/evening of drinking margaritas, sangria and cheap beer.
I am drunk off of margaritas (on the rocks with salt!) and have the hiccups.
One more thing to check off my endlessly long list of graduate school requirements.
P.S. I like that LiveJournal has a Mood option for Drunk. Current Mood: drunk

11:33 am - Monday Mornings are Mean Was woken up at 6:17am by a high-pitched beeping noise. After investigating the source of the noise, I think it was coming from the apartment directly above my own. Stood in the hallway of the 8th floor, contemplating banging on the door but resisted the temptation. Went back down to my apartment and laid in bed trying to block out the noise that was surely going to drive me insane (a la auditory Chinese Water Torture).
It was during this time that I decided what the problem was with the recent spate of trilogies that came out recently. Too dark. Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, X Men 3. All too dark for the third in a trilogy. Take classic Star Wars as our best example, you go dark with #2 and let 3 be a little more upbeat. Just my early morning musing.
Cruel beeping terminated at 7:05am and was able to sleep for a little bit longer. Current Mood: irritated

05:22 pm - It's Monday So The Hulk is on TV and I can't enjoy the comic book-nature of the film because I'm so distracted by his purple pants. (And not in a good way) A.) Where the hell did Bruce Banner get purple pants? B.) Why do they fit the Hulk when no other clothing will? C.)Are they indestructible? D.) If so, where can I get a pair?
I have a friend with an unfortunate tendency to collect Monologists. I realized this yesterday on the way to Dimsum in Rosslyn. Several of her friends, while nice people, speak in endless, rambling monologues that do not allow for comments, interruptions or changes in topic. I listened for about 20-30 minutes about tough, fibrous tubers that grow in Africa that do not have an American name but may be cooked in a variety of ways. About the various ways of cooking these tubers. What kind of African side dishes would go best with these tubers. How the monologist got caught in a rainstorm. How she does not own galoshes. What kind of galoshes she would buy if she got some. And so on...
I should suggest she have a blog or live journal perhaps. Here we can monologue endlessly and no one can stop us. Current Location: The District Current Mood: complacent Current Music: The Ranconteurs - Steady as She Goes

11:01 am - Saturday Morning Grumps Just a couple things...
Stop giving Tiger Woods credit for the soaring rates of interracial marriages. Contrary to popular belief, he's not that amazing.
Stop writing sequels or rewrites of classic novels. I was at B&N yesterday and I swear I came across at least 5 books that tried to glom onto Jane Austen’s work by continuing a book or rephrasing an established book through a different character’s eyes. Find your own characters and plotlines. Stop being so lazy. Write your own damn stories.
I think I need another cup of coffee. Current Mood: discontent
